My Story

Welcome!  Steven James here.  A few short years ago, the last thing you could have told me is that I would be writing my bio on this webpage.  I never intended to write and sing county music.  In 2012, I was a freshman at Clemson University, expecting to major in Chemical Engineering.  I had never sung in public, nor had anyone ever really heard me sing.

I'm not ignorant of country music, mind you, as I grew up listening to a lot of it (even had a favorite cowboy hat)  and girls in high school liked it and they would tune my radio to those stations.  To myself, I figured  'I could do that.'  I did play piano (thanks Mom)  for several years growing up.  Not always my favorite thing.  My mom got me a cheap guitar to take to college and I seriously started teaching myself to play, write and sing.  I went home at Christmas break and announced my plan to forego the engineering path and proceed with a country music adventure.  My parents were supportive and I made some exploratory trips to Nashville.  Actually played at a few places and received an encouraging response.  Sort of stoked my fires for maybe doing this music thing full time.  Fast forwarding through the next few years found me transferring for a short semester to MTSU and winning some singing competitions such as the Texaco Country Showdown at the SC Strawberry Festival and a North Carolina Music Awards show.  I made trips through Texas, GA, NC, SC and once down to Florida.  I moved to Nashville and got a job as a home repair/improvement contractor to pay the bills and supplemented that with umpire pay for travel team baseball.  I continued to write and play out when I could.  In the fall of 2017, after I had saved my money up, I decided to cut the cord on everything except music.  I had gotten wind of a search that a professional country touring band was having for a frontman/lead singer.  I sent my music in and next thing I know, I'm the frontman for the band!  Subsequently, the band morphed into the 'STEVEN JAMES BAND.

I'm actually on route to the western states for a month long tour. Stay tuned.  Blessings to all!

STEVEN JAMES
